\nI particularly like both the colour association activity and the very important link it has in then moving onto the static image task.
\n
\nI also think having students seriously reflect on their own use of stereotypes, rightly or wrongly (probably mostly the later) in their everyday life is an empowering and very worthwhile activity \/ endeavour that teaches students not only the concept and significance of steroetypes but also taps into the 'values' area of the curriculum now explicitly made so important.
\n
\nA point of consideration - choice of visual text as starting could be varied to be more accessible \/ enjoyable to male students.

\nI like the mixture of summative assessment tasks that allow for a range of student skills to be assessed successfully - and a variety of student strengths to be celebrated.
\n
\nI also like the fact that very entertaining superheroes ala 'The Incredibles' are used as a 'hook' type starting point for then analysing the way in which heroes need not be fantastic in every sense but are also more often everyday people doing fantastic things.
\n
\n- Possibility of doing some reading on historical figures that have been heroic and morals and lessons we can take from them ... particularly New Zealand ones.

\nA really interesting and engaging topic to construct a unit on. I think quite a few boys in particular would get stuck into this sort of content and really enjoy it.
\n
\nPersonally I like the escapism and imagination that the unit allows for. The wide range of texts available in this sort of genre \/ area is also of benifit in making sure that everyone has something they are engaging with that is of interest to them. Like the tie-in with environmental issues and G.E also (a good real life connection).
\n
\nA suggestion might be to, once having looked at a variety of "what if's" suggested in literature, have students hypothesise or construct their own future world in creative writing type tasks - essentially have them creatively answer: What do you think the future will be like in 5, 10, 20 years? Perhaps they could build models, do posters surrounding a potential future problem .etc.
